OVERVIEW

Kwame Ofosu Bamfo is a Ghanaian entrepreneur who established Bamson Company Limited in 1980. Originally a trader, he operated as Bamfo and Sons, a family business which he ran with his brother and his son. The companysold local paints at retail and was one of the agents or retailers for GIHOC Paints, one of the largest local paint manufacturers at the time. Laterthat same year (1980), Bamson Company began importing car refinishing paints from AkzoNobel, a Dutch multinational that manufactures a brand of paints called Sikkens. During this period, the sole local agent for Sikkens in Ghana was Reiss & Co., a Ghana-based distributor of chemical products and fertilizers. 

Bamson Company began importing AkzoNobel paint products with permission from Reiss & Co., but three years later it became thenew local agent for the Sikkens brand in Ghana and it remains the sole agent for the Sikkens brand today. Kwame Bamfo also owns the ALISA Hotel in Accra.

Bamfo acquired majority of his wealth through the importation AkzoNobel Car Refinishes products under the brand name SIKKENS into Ghana. SIKKENS is the most widely used car paint in Ghana and has controlled 100% of the car paint market in Ghana for over 30 years. Bamson Company faces no competition at the high end of the car paint market in Ghana.  The company’s products cover three categories of automobile paints through two major brands; Sikkens and Dynacoat.

Bamson Company also produces household paints; the three types of paints produced for the household sector are Crown paint (decorative paint imported from the UK), Sandtex and Bamtex (which is locally formulated and manufactured by the company).

Bamson Company also owns a Training Centre that offers technical courses and training programmes in auto spraying, equipment maintenance and counter services to technicians and shop owners in the auto paint business.

Bamson Company employs over 150 people with 5 forming the managing team. Bamson Company Limited has 7 branches, 39 distributors nation-wide.  The company has six branches and 40 dealers and distributors through- out the country.

Ofosu Bamfo is the owner of ALISA Hotel in Accra. The hotel is currently going through a multimillion-dollar expansion project, which he has christened the Alisa Village.
